Background
Youngest of 6 children, brought up a small-holding in Somerset. Educated at a convent then a local college. Qualified as a Training Manager, then with the Institute of Personnel & Management. Owner, partner and shareholder in 4 businesses spanning over 30 years ranging from catering, health and online communities.
Community Involvement
Volunteering started when I was 16 and still continues 30 years later. From shaking collection tins outside of supermarkets to working on complex National Lottery grant applications and sitting on committees and boards to organising celebrity charity auctions.
My experience as a volunteer has taught me that communities and people are really no different to businesses and people. No matter how large or small the collective, we must work together.
I was previously Chair for the Totterdown Children’s Workshop in Bristol for 8 years, then on the Board of Trustees for the University of Bristol Student Union and I was a member and fundraiser for The Prince’s Trust, Women’s Leadership Group. The Prince's Trust Women's Leadership Group is an innovative fundraising initiative with a dedicated committee of leading, influential women committed to raising funds to help young women get their lives back on track.
Currently, as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Manufacturing and Commerce [FRSA], I was voted on to the Fellowship Council. The Fellowship is a diverse and broad collective of individuals: in bringing these individuals together and exploiting the tremendous diversity of background and experience, the RSA has made significant and lasting change.
I also volunteer and consult to the Children’s Scrapstore, Bristol: established 28 years ago, it is the "flagship" Scrapstore and re-uses waste things as play things and also operates "PlayPods" which is an innovative business placing PlayPods in school playgrounds being rolled out nationally. If you have something that could be re-used, click here.
And lastly but by no means least.......I’m on the NSPCC Bristol Business Board, set up to use our influence in business to raise money for ChildLine and support the Child’s Voice Appeal. We've set up the Bristol 1600 Club as one route for businesses to raise money.

Publican
In the early '90's I owned the lease of a popular Bristol pub, The Farm in St Werberghs. Over the course of five years, the pub became one of the first pre-club venues in Bristol, hosting some of Bristols finest DJ's. As a family-friendly pub, the food became another focal point for business and an excellent food trade was established.
